Formula and Methodology

Monthly EMI is calculated using the reducing balance EMI formula:
EMI = P x r x (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n - 1)

P is the financed amount after down payment, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the tenure in months. Total interest is total EMI paid minus principal. GST is applied separately on interest and processing fee. Actual total cost includes total EMI paid, down payment, GST on interest, processing fee and GST on processing fee.

Worked Example

Example: For a purchase of ₹1,00,000 converted to a 12-month EMI at 16% annual interest with 1% processing fee and 18% GST, Calczo estimates the monthly EMI, total interest, GST on interest, processing fee, GST on processing fee and the actual total cost. This makes the bank quote easier to compare with paying upfront or choosing another financing option.

FAQs

Yes. Banks usually charge GST on the interest component of credit card EMI. This calculator separates interest and GST so you can see the actual extra cost.

Processing fee is often charged separately, and GST may be added on that fee. Calczo includes both in the actual total cost.

The EMI total mainly covers principal and interest. GST on interest, processing fee and GST on processing fee increase the actual amount you pay.

You can enter zero interest to estimate fee and GST impact. For no-cost EMI offers, also check whether a discount is removed or a processing fee is charged.
